STANDARD WEBSITE PACKAGES

A "standard" website is any typical business website consisting of a variety of elements that communicates a product, service, or idea. How that content is structured depends who you are trying to attract.  Majority of the websites we build for our business clients are standard websites, consisting of original or stock photos, written copy, and many other dynamic features like forms, slideshows, and even videos. Browse the tabs below for a better understanding of our standard websites for businesses.

  • Framework

WEBSITES BUILT USING CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

Our standard websites are built on widely-used Content Management Systems (CMS), specifically Joomla! or Wordpress.  Spider Web LLC specializes in Joomla! CMS, which provides rich features and extendability.  Sometimes folks prefer Wordpress, and we can build websites on Wordpress as well.

  • THE BASIC FEATURES & ANATOMY OF A STANDARD WEBSITE

    Header & Call-To-Action

The website header is mainly considered the space right below the web address bar, and is a space typically designated for elements like your logo, call-to-action, and contact information. Many headers also include the menu bar, depending on spacing restrictions. Since it's the top of the page, the header should grab the attention of your visitors and promote engagement. That's why, typically, the header includes your branding, and a call-to-action to help prompt action from your visitor.

    Website header section

    Navigation Menus

A menu is simply a collection of buttons that contain the hierarchy of your website.  The main menu, typically in the header or banner sections, should contain a clean and user-friendly structure of links that helps your visitor easily navigate every portion of your website.

It's also common to put menu links in on different sections of the website, like the footer or next to the main content, which makes it easier to visitors to find different pages on your site.  Our standard websites include a main menu with drop-down functionality, plus menus can be placed anywhere else you prefer.

    Website menu section

    Banner / Showcase

The banner, or sometimes called showcase, is typically reserved for visual elements like images, graphics, or videos, along with text. Located below your main menu and logo, this section is very often used to showcase key services, products, or ideas to the visitor.

This area can include static images, or more dynamic elements like forms, sliding images, or videos.  This section should be reserved for the most visually appealing elements of the website.  With our standard website packages, you can mix-and-match as many different elements in the banner area to meet your needs.

    Website banner

    Main Content

Website content basically includes the written copy (text), images, videos, and any other simple elements used to communicate your service, brand, or products. Simply put, the content is the heart and soul of your website, and should be carefully composed and structured so that it successfully speaks to your target audience. The main content is also referred to as the "body" of your website.

Within our standard website packages, content is to be supplied by the client. More often than not, our clients need counseling on preparing their content for the website. We will work directly with you to help draft your content to its fullest potential. The most important thing is that your content is unique and fresh, so it speaks to your target audience. For clients who want their content to deliver maximum SEO benefits, we also offer additional copywriting services for your entire website.

    Contact Forms

Dynamic (interactive) forms are the simplest way for your visitors to contact you. The main benefit of having forms on your website is to encourage visitors to inquire about your goods and services. As opposed to sending you an email directly, the sender isn't required to have their own email address to send the form, as the form submits itself from the website server. The information sent is collected and securely sent to an email address of your choice.

Website forms have the ability to:

    • Collect information
    • Account registration / logins
    • Schedule appointments
    • Upload and transmit documents
    • Accept payments

Each form can be customized to be as simple or dynamic as you want, plus simple widgets can be implemented to prevent SPAM. Contact forms are included in all websites we build, and you can add as many as you want.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO BUILD MY WEBSITE?

There are a lot of factors that come into play that determine how long it takes to build a website. Naturally, the volume and complexity of the content directly affects the timeline. Also, how promptly the client delivers the content...sometimes it takes clients longer than others to prepare their materials, etc. To expedite the process, we make sure we plan ahead with the client and establish a realistic plan-of-action before building the site.

WHAT IS A WEBSITE MADE UP OF?

Any website consists of a network of folders and files that exist on a server. Most websites nowadays also have a database file attached to it that contains certain contents of the site. The nature, or structure of the files of course depends on the build and contents of the website.

DO YOU PROVIDE HOSTING AND EMAIL?

Yes, we use trusted, third party hosting and email providers for my clients. Hosting is very affordable, starting at around $4 / month and is secure and fast. For email, I recommend using Google G Suite which costs $5 / month per email account.

CAN I USE MY OWN HOSTING PLAN FOR THE SITE YOU BUILD?

In most cases, yes. If your hosting account comes with "Cpanel", then we can build your site on your preexisting hosting plan.

DO YOU PROVIDE THE DOMAIN FOR MY WEBSITE?

We highly recommend purchasing your own domain using a trusted domain registrar, that way you have control over the domain forever. We recommend using Godaddy for domain registration.

DO YOU PROVIDE SSL (Secure Socket Layer) CERTIFICATES?

Yes, every site we build comes with a SSL certificate installed for no extra charge. SSL certificates are borderline required nowadays for any website. For more information on the details and benefits of a SSL certificate, click here.

WHAT COSTS ARE INVOLVED AFTER THE SITE IS LAUNCHED?

Technically, once the site is live your only mandatory expense is your ongoing hosting and domain registration fee, which renews depending on the terms of your plan. We provide monthly maintenance packages and "per job" rates for your website, which can include content revisions, security updates, and SEO marketing optimization.

WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE A WEBSITE? CAN YOU OVERHAUL IT INSTEAD OF BUILDING A NEW ONE?

Each case is different, but we can evaluate your current website to see if it is indeed possible for us to take on and overhaul it. We have done it many times before, but have also declined taking on websites due to various reasons.

CAN I ACCEPT PAYMENTS WITH A STANDARD WEBSITE?

Yes, it's quite easy to integrate a third party payment gateway like Paypal or Square. However, for high volume product sales, having an E-commerce shopping cart website is a must.

E-COMMERCE WEBSITE PACKAGES

An "e-commerce" or "shopping cart" website is a dynamic website consisting of products and services, giving consumers the ability to make purchases online.  When it comes to e-commerce, think of Amazon, the global giant in online shopping.  Ofcourse, an online shopping site the size of Amazon.com is way above and beyond anything a small or medium-sized business would need, but it contains just about every component you would need in an online e-commerce store.

Ecommerce websites are a great way to sell products and make maximum ROI.  Many companies rely on their online store for the majority of their revenue, as it cuts out the need for brick and mortar stores, and all the other overhead involved with standard retail. Your online store can sell your products 24/7 while you sleep! However, there is a rather large learning curve involved when running an online store, as all the working parts are managed within a control panel.  You can have every component that would exist on a standard website, plus all the additional features needed for an online shop. Browse the tabs below for a complete breakdown of our ecommerce shopping cart websites.

Website content includes the written copy (text), images, videos, and any other simple elements used to communicate your brand and sell products. The most important aspect of content writing for e-commerce sites is drafting catchy and descriptive content for your product pages. Product specs, high-resolution images, and even videos grab and maintain the attention of potential buyers.

For clients who want their content to deliver maximum SEO benefits, we also offer additional copywriting services for your entire website.

    Product Categories & Pages

Within any e-commerce website, it's important to properly categorize and communicate your products. Depending on the volume of products and varying categories, there should be a clear hierarchy breaking down your different products, making it easy for your potential customers to find your products.

The final product page is where a customer can find all pertinent information needed for them to make a purchase.

Important features of product pages include:

    • High-resolution images and videos, including slideshows and product zoom-in capabilities
    • Product name
    • SKU or product number
    • Customer star ratings
    • A clear and detailed product description
    • Any warranty or return policy information
    • Price, quantity, and product variation selections (color, styles, model, etc).
    • A clear and attention-grabbing purchase button (buy now, add to cart, etc)

    Shopping Cart and Checkout

The shopping cart portion of an e-commerce site is simply the section consumers land on before purchasing their items. A shopping cart page should provide detailed information about the items, and act as the beginning steps in purchasing, or "check-out".

Common features of shopping cart pages include:

    • Complete descriptions of all items to be purchased
    • Shipping options and pricing
    • Total price, including tax, shipping, etc
    • Functions to remove or edit items in the shopping cart
    • Check-out portal, including payment options, payment processing, and purchase confirmation

    Customer Account Login

When running an online store, it's crucial to encourage and accommodate return customers. Our e-commerce sites have built-in, secure account capabilities for every customer that makes a purchase on your store. When they purchase a product for the first time, they can create their own online account through your store that preserves all their purchase information, billing / shipping address, and more. This makes it convenient for return customers to login, manage their past orders, and expedite future purchases.

    E-commerce store login

    Online Store Control Panel

With every e-commerce site we build, it comes complete with comprehensive store management software that allows you to manage every aspect of your online store from A to Z. • QUESTIONS TO YOUR ANSWERS!

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO BUILD MY E-COMMERCE WEBSITE?

There are alot of factors that come into play that determine how long it takes to build a website. With e-commerce websites, there are a quite a bit more components and decisions involved compared to a standard website. The timeframe depends on alot of factors, but we work directly with our clients to coordinate the content and keep the build process moving forward as quickly as possible.

IS IT DIFFICULT TO MANAGE THE ONLINE STORE?

The online store control panel included with the Joomla! CMS is built for the common business owner to manage. But, just like anything else, a new system takes time to learn and become fluent with. We can provide tutoring and coaching for our clients to help them understand and use the control panel.

DO YOU PROVIDE HOSTING AND EMAIL FOR MY E-COMMERCE SITE?

Yes, we use trusted, third party hosting and email providers for my clients. Hosting is very affordable, starting at around $4 / month and is secure and fast. For email, I recommend using Google G Suite which costs $5 / month per email account.

CAN I USE MY OWN HOSTING PLAN FOR THE SITE YOU BUILD?

In most cases, yes. If your hosting account comes with "Cpanel", then we can most likely build your e-commerce site on it. It's also important to look at the "bandwidth" allowances with a hosting plan. If you expect a high volume of visitors/purchases, you want to make sure your hosting plan is robust enough to handle the traffic.

Technically, once the site is live you will need to pay for the renewal of your hosting plan, domain, and any transaction costs included with your payment gateway. For ongoing maintenance and marketing for your e-commerce website, we provide monthly maintenance packages and "per job" rates for your website, which can include content revisions, security updates, and SEO marketing optimization.

WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE AN E-COMMERCE WEBSITE? CAN YOU OVERHAUL IT INSTEAD OF BUILDING A NEW ONE?

With e-commerce websites, there are many different programs and systems you can use. Before we can take on any existing e-commerce site, we would have to evaluate the site and system it runs on first.

HOW DO I IMPLEMENT A PAYMENT GATEWAY WITH MY SITE?

There are a variety of different payment gateways and third party POS providers you can use. The simplest form of payments is using Paypal. With Paypal, you can implement a payment gateway and accept Paypal or credit cards. The fees are usually per transaction, but they may charge a flat monthly fee too.

For higher volume sales, it's sometimes more cost-effective to work with a third party POS or merchant processor, as they can provide cheaper rates sometimes.

HOW DO I IMPLEMENT SHIPPING WITH MY SITE?

The first step is to shop around your shipping providers. UPS, FedEX, and USPS all have digital shipping systems you can implement in your online store. Some may have restrictions on shipping (international, interstate, etc). How far you are willing to ship products can determine which shipping provider is best as well. These different providers have systems you can implement in your online store that makes shipping easy, including shipping calculators that determine shipping prices based on destination, volume, and weight.

WEBSITE HOSTING

Before your website can go live on the internet, it must be hosted on a web server.  A web host is simply a server (computer) that hosts all the files for your website, and loads your website when someone navigates to it in a web browser. It's important to have a web hosting plan that can provide speed, security, and reliability for your website.

Which hosting plan is right for me?

Typically, most businesses only need a "Shared" hosting plan. These hosting plans provide plenty of resources for your website, and can be purchased for a few dollars per month. Now, if you plan on hosting hundreds of websites, or a website that draws in a very large volume of traffic per day (Amazon.com), than you would consider a more robust "Dedicated" or "Cloud" hosting plan, but that is usually way more than anyone would need.

Spider Web LLC provides affordable shared website hosting for our clients.  All of our shared hosting plans come with the latest in SSD technology (Solid State Drive) which provides hyper fast loading speeds while keeping your website secure, and "cPanel" website management interface, the most popular web hosting control panel due to its ease of use.  This website you are on right now is powered by a SSD shared hosting plan. Notice how fast it loads?  So does Google : )

WEBSITE DOMAINS

A website domain is simply your website address.  It's important to plan for the right domain address, because having a relevant and memorable website domain is crucial for growing a strong brand, and also for strong SEO rankings.  There's a reason why domain brokers have domains for sale that reach in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Which domain suffix is right for me?

Nowadays, there are a variety of domain suffix's to buy.  For your business, having a .com is your best bet.  However, if you have exclusive online shops or a non-profit organization domains that end in ".shop" or ".org" are ideal.

If you are unsure about which domain is best for your brand, contact us and we'd be glad to help find your domain.
